Virtualization Seminar Coming Again

If you attended the Virtualization Seminar on January 22 and you weren't a virtualization believer before you went, you most likely are now. SIS, DataCore, Vizioncore, and VMware all arrived to give a comprehensive overview of how their products work together and how virtualization changes a business with a focus on VMware Infrastructure 3 version3.5 (1)

Due to the overwhelming interest in the seminar there are plans in place to rerun this program in the summer of 2008. If you would like to be notified when this is offered again email us at newsandevents@infopoint.net.

VMware Manages Release Lifecycle

Excerpt from www.entmag.com/news

Virtualization pioneer VMware has released the public beta of its new deployment management product, VMware Stage Manager. the application is based on the company's flagship virtualization platform, VMware infrastructure 3 (1).

Stage Manager is designed to allow IT to visualize, manage, and automate the process of bringing new applications and services into production.

The solution is similar to VMware's Lab Manager, a test-lab automation suite for developers. However, Stage Manager is aimed at the enterprise IT teams responsible for preproduction infrastructure and process, as described by Melinda Wilken, VMware's senior marketing director.

SQL News
SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS) and BI

SQL Server 2005 includes a component called SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS) which replaces Data Transformation Services (DTS). A must for people who need to implement data extract, transform, and load (ETL) solutions. Beyond just traditional ETL needs, this tool provides out-of-the-box solutions for maintenance of SQL databases, enables nontraditional scenarios, updates multidimensional cube data all while leveraging the power of Microsoft .NET platform and SQL Server.

Importing Poorly Formatted Text Files using SSIS
Excerpt from SQL-Server-Performance.com

Handling text files from SQL Server Integration service (SSIS) is not new and I am not going to discuss importing well formatted text files. There are many occasions when database developers (1) must import text files which are not properly formatted. I will discuss three methods for doing this. For these situations we are going to use Script Component data flow task.

Knowledge-wise you need to have basic understanding of SSIS packages (2). If you have created SSIS package to import traditional text files that will be more than enough. We are going to do some .NET scripting, you need to have some understanding of .NET coding (3).

Resource-wise you need to have SQL Server Business intelligence Development Studio (4) installed in your computer.

Case 1: Importing files with different row delimiters in different rows
Case 2: Different Column Delimiters in Same Row
Case 3: Variable Columns

Looking for End User Training

SharePoint End User Training Hard to Find

It is no secret that SharePoint has come on strong and is playing a key role in many companies. As Microsoft's best selling server of all times, if you aren't using it now you soon will be.

The beauty of the product is it gives the Information Worker the power to design (1), control and maintain their collaboration sites. While Server Administrators (2) are responsible for security and design at the top level  of a SharePoint implementation, it is often left up to the Site Owner (3) to decide what sub-sites to create and who should have permission to access them. That could mean no more calling the Help Desk to get a new team member permission to your shared LAN folder!

What if you are that Site Owner (aka Power User)? Where can you turn for comprehensive training on important features, design concepts, best practices, and tools for Site Owners?
Infopoint! We have Mindsharp's renowned SharePoint Power User 3-day training course. Information Workers and Server Admins have benefited from this class. For those looking for more about SharePoint Designer check out our NEW 5 day SharePoint Power User PLUS Designer 2007 course (only found at Infopoint!)

What about training for your Site Members (4)? Our WSS Level 1 class is perfect for those who just need to know the basics. Send your staff to our public class or call us to arrange private onsite training customized to your specific needs.
